THE GOAL
Keep the fitness. Lose the fatigue.

Your fitness for HYROX Tampa is already built. The goal of race week is to keep your fitness and stay race-sharp while progressively reducing volume and fatigue, so you arrive at the start line recovered, sharp, and ready to express everything you've trained for.

Each day below has one job. The taper progressively removes volume and muscular cost while preserving intensity, movement familiarity, and race-specific rhythm.

Race-week recovery note: taking a full rest day in place of any of the prescribed training days is highly supported. If fatigue, soreness, poor sleep, travel, or general readiness suggests rest will help more than the planned session, take the rest day. These sessions are a framework, not seven mandatory workouts. Save the racing for race day.

VO₂max
4 × 3:00 work / 3:00 recovery

Target approximately 90% HRmax during the work intervals.

Run Ski Row Bike

Modality: your choice.

PURPOSE Last significant high-intensity cardiovascular stimulus. Maintain VO₂max exposure while keeping the dose low enough to fully recover before race day.

3' work · 3' rest
2' work · 2' rest
1' work · 1' rest

Rotate Ski, Row and Bike. Ski + Row: intended HYROX race pace. Bike: easy / recovery.

PURPOSE Maintain race-specific aerobic output on the Ski and Row while using the bike and rest periods to control fatigue.

AMRAP 15
  • 200m Run
  • 12.5m Sled Push
  • 200m Ski
  • 12.5m Sled Pull
  • 200m Row
  • 25m Burpee Broad Jump
  • 200m Run
  • 25m KB Carry
  • 200m Ski
  • 12.5m Sandbag Lunge
  • 200m Row
  • 12 Wall Balls
Rest 5' → AMRAP 15

Pick up exactly where you stopped. Double all monostructural distances: Run / Ski / Row = 400m. Station distances and reps remain unchanged.

Intensity goal: stay in Zone 2, or return to Zone 2, during every monostructural piece. The goal is not maximum rounds. When station work elevates your heart rate, use the Run / Ski / Row to regain breathing and aerobic control.
PURPOSE Practice transitioning from muscular station work back into controlled, sustainable aerobic output.
DAYS 4 – 1
Strip it back.

DAYS OUT
Specify
Run + Sled Specificity
6 × 600m · 1:1 work-to-rest

Alternate: 600m Run → Sled Push / 600m Run → :30 Sled Pull. Complete 3 push exposures + 3 pull exposures.

For the push, perform one planned race-day push segment. Distance is individualized to your intended race strategy (1/3 length, 1/2 length, etc.), ideally about 4–7m.

Total running: 3,600m

PURPOSE Practice the run-to-high-force sled transition while substantially reducing total race volume.
3
DAYS OUT
Recover & Breathe
Easy Run + Breathing Practice
30' easy run · Zone 2
  • Wall Balls: 2–4 sets × no more than 10 reps
  • Sandbag Lunges: 2–4 sets × no more than 10 reps
  • Breathing: inhale down, exhale up. Do not chase fatigue.
PURPOSE Recovery, movement rhythm, and deliberate breathing practice.

DAYS OUT
Touch
Easy Aerobic + Movement Touches
15–30' easy ride or run · Zone 2

At halfway: stop, stretch, and briefly practice Burpee Broad Jumps + Carries , then finish the remaining easy aerobic work.

Finish with mobility, stretching, foam rolling and soft-tissue work. Keep movement exposures very low volume.

PURPOSE Maintain movement familiarity and circulation without creating a meaningful training stimulus.
